The second volume of the series, Designing Batch Fermentation
Reactors, this book provides applications of the bioreactors design
equations, developed in the first volume of the series, in
computational designs of production bioreactors assuming
homogenized microbes distribution, with the object of
providing guiding examples for adopting those design equations
in designing bioreactors, which by and large is a complex
engineering task even as reflected by the complexity of the design
equations and limited application as developed in the Volume 1
Design Basics.
Even using kinetics rate equations, based on reaction
kinetics studies of homogenized microbes-reactivity, this second volume of the series expansively
develops the concepts and analysis presented in the Volume 1 with
such structured sequencing of the design tasks as to empower even
the beginner bioreactor engineer undertake bioreactors designs at a
satisfactory level of confidence.
Although the
proper rate equations to be employed in every production bioreactor
ought to and should be derived through the reactions kinetics
analysis of the Biochemical Pathways that collectively describe the
metabolic reactions of the microbe for deployment, and while
admittedly, the rate equations used in this book are not, the
computational designs presented and the results obtaining
nonetheless provide instructive design applications of the equations
of the first volume.
